SOS DOG: The Purebred Dog Hobby Re-examined

Western culture has idolized and romanticized the artificial selection of dogs. At the same time aboriginal land races have been disregarded and largely despised. What the authors’ research exposed, however, was an indigenous South African canine society that is so healthy, well adjusted and mentally sound that it caused them to question their lifetime of experience with purebreds. They examine the real needs of the dog, what they see as seven capital sins committed by modern dog breeders and owners, and argue for a more natural existence with more emphasis on the health and welfare of the dog.
