Deer have value as a conservation resource and as a traditional sporting quarry.

However, they have increased in numbers, and as a consequence the need for deer management has greatly increased. Management issues increasingly focus on the legal implications of the welfare of the deer, public safety and maintaining a balance between economic activities and environmental conservation.
