Details

The horse breeding country of Holstein has noticeably outperformed all other German breeding areas with international show jumpers in the last decades. At the same time it can be noted that the Holstein breeders obtained this worldwide success with a relatively small mare base. There is more: the quality is so high that all other German and foreign breeders have clearly profited from Holstein. A look at the pedigrees makes it particularly clear: the breeders, who busy themselves with the breeding of show jumpers, must begin with the Holstein gene. The predominant position of the Holstein breed is clear, nationally and internationally. For many years, Holstein has proportionally placed the highest ratio of show jumpers at the German National Young Horse Championships.

This second volume of Holstein Stallion Lines concerns itself with the comparatively young line of Cor de la Bryère. In the beginning of the 1970s, Cor de la Bryère was discovered in France. Once in Holstein, he transformed the horse breeding business in Schleswig-Holstein, then stepped out from the land between the seas triumphantly advancing around the world. With resounding hereditary transmission in rideability, form, light-footedness, technique and bascule, he helped the Holstein breed internationally to more importance. His offspring have gained international influence and have shaped all German horse breeds. With the stallions Caletto I, II, and III, and Calypso I through V, Cor de la Bryère has produced meaningful brother dynasties, which have stood the test of time in sport and in breeding. The licensed stallions Corrado I with Franke Sloothaak (German champion 1994) and Cordalmé Z with Gilbert Boeckmann (2nd in the German Classics 1994) have nationally and internationally aroused sensation in the show jumping business. Corlandus was the most successful dressage horse by Cor de la Bryère. He was always a medalist at international championships with Margit Otto-Crépin in the 1980s. In eventing, the hard-hitting chestnut Contrast, then Cordeka, the full sister to the Caletto brothers, became internationally famous with Herbert Bloecker.

Each licensed stallion is detailed and comes with standardized data regarding color, descent, height at withers, personal sports contribution, and location and length of specified cover time, whether he has a Holstein brand or branded by another breeding organization, and whether he comes from Holstein mare lines. Further stallion sons from other breeds, which are not from Holstein mare lines, are listed under their respective sire in order to ensure an accurate overview of them.

The features of this book include comprehensive illustrations and photographs. For most of the stallions, even in foreign possession, photo material has been obtained, which has historical value and has been published for the first time. The diagrams of the individual branches of this line were created by Juergen Passig and give this book a particularly valuable dimension.
