Alan Mowlem has worked for over 20 years at the National Institute for Research in Dairying (later the institute of Grassland and animal production), where part of his responsibility was a herd of 300 British Saanen goats. He worked on goat nutrition and reproduction, as well as milk, meat fibre production and artificial insemination. He regularly contributes to conferences in many countries and has worked on goat projects in Nepal and Ethiopia. In the UK he runs his own consultancy and advisory business, The Goat Advisory Bureau, and spends much of his time advising existing and prospective goat farmers and teaching at agricultural and vetinary colleges.
